Lightning Home Opener

The Pensacola Lightning will open up the 2010 season in style, as they take on the USFL defending champion Henry County Horsemen, Saturday June 5th @ Pensacola High School, game time is 7pm, tickets are available at the gate.

Lightning Join USFL

The Pensacola Lightning are now proud members of the United South Football League. The USFL is in its fourth season and was started as a league for the best teams in the South. Entering the 2010 season with 22 teams in the South, including teams from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina. The USFL is without a doubt the "Main Event" of Minor League football in the South. The United South Football League exists as a Football League with the sole purpose of bringing quality adult amateur football teams together. The USFL is operated with the premise of offering its members an enjoyable atmosphere and environment for owners to operate their individual teams. Every effort is made to restrict membership to teams that adhere to the policies of the League and are willing to work with the other member teams in a positive and constructive manner. The USFL is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting of member teams. All members of the USFL Board of Directors function with the idea that we are involved in a UNIQUE activity, therefore we present ourselves to the public in a positive manner, and respect the efforts of other board members in making the USFL the strongest organization it can be.

Lightning Stop Warriors

The Pensacola Lightning defeated The South Georgia Warriors 28-21 in a game between two Southern Heavyweights. Big play was the word of the night, as both teams scored thru the air on long passes. Touchdown receptions by Dustin Cleckler and Paul Lawrence along with touchdown runs by DeMarcus Blount and Don Rich sealed the victory for the Lightning, in a battle between the two best teams in the deep South.

Lightning win LCFL South Championship

The Pensacola Lightning claim the LCFL South Championship with a 34-31 victory over the Birmingham Wildfire Saturday night. Jacob Matlock kicked a 37 yard field goal in the 7th overtime to seal the deal for the Lightning. Matlock set a Lightning record with 5 field goals. Marcus Lewis, Don Rich and DeMarcus Blount scored touchdowns for the Lightning. The real story however was the Lightning defense who time and again came up with big plays to keep the Wildfire out of the endzone. The Lightning will play the LCFL Eastern Champs (TBD) on October 31st in Philadelphia, PA.

Lightning advance in LCFL playoffs

The Pensacola Lightning advance to the LCFL South Championship game with a 42-14 win over the Louisiana Storm. The Lightning were lead by Don Rich's two rushing TD's and 3 TD passes (2 to Marcus Lewis, and one to Anthony Merritt)and a Paul Lawrence TD on the ground. The win sets up the LCFL South match up between the Pensacola Lightning and Birmingham Wildfire, with the winner moving on the the LCFL semi-finals in Philadelphia.

Lightning avenge only season loss at home

The Pensacola Lightning knocked of the countries No. 2 ranked team Saturday night at Pensacola High School, with a 17-14 win over the Birmingham Wildfire.

Pensacola went on the attack early to take a 10-0 by halftime in a hard hitting contest as they looked to avenge a 30-3 loss back on Aug. 1 in Birmingham.

But they needed a late drive to ice the game after allowing the Wildfire to take a 14-10 lead.

The winning drive covered 62 yards on nine plays as DeMarcus Blount rumbled five yards for the winning score with 2:24 left on the clock.

Don Rich put the Lightning on the board first with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Kelly Smith.

Later in the first half, Jacob Matlock kicked a 42 yard field goal to make it a 10-0 lead for the Lightning.

Pensacola finished the regular season at 9-1 and will host the Louisiana Storm in the first round of the LCFL playoffs next Saturday at Pensacola High School.

Pensacola Lightning wins 'Battle of Champions' 37-8

It was a long night for the Panhandle Crusaders.

The PFL Champions saw what life was like in a Lightning storm as the Pensacola Lightning dismantled them 37-8

The members of the newly formed Patti LaBelle Community Football League made short work of the Crusaders by leading 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Then the two-time NAFL Division 1 South Region Champions went on flexing their muscles till halftime as they took a 31-0 lead into the break.

Quarterback Don Rich threw two touchdowns for the Lightning in the first half as Marcus Lewis and Kelly Smith were on the receiving end and he added two more touchdowns on the ground game.

To make matters worse the Crusaders found themselves pinned deep in their own territory in the first quarter when Mike Hanlon fell on a fumble as the Crusaders quarterback coughed up the football when he was being sacked on his own three-yard line.

Jacob Matlock made things interesting as well with a 42-yard field goal and he even tossed his first two-point conversion just before intermission to Mike Hall.

The only score for the Crusaders came in the fourth quarter when Cortez Abrams dove in from one yard out and the two point conversion was good.

The Lightning will open their home season in the LCFL on June 27 when they host the Louisiana Storm at 7 p.m. at Pensacola High School.

Lightning Tame Wolfpac

The Pensacola Lightning opened up their 2009 season with a convincing 36-6 win over the Pensacola Wolfpac.

In a game hyped as "The Battle of Pensacola", the Lightning took control early and never relinquished it.

The Lightning dominated in every phase of the game scoring twice thru the air as Don Rich connected with Marcus Lewis, and Mike Hall to Kelly Smith.

Lightning would also strike defensively as Kenny Robinson returned an interception 42 yards and Jonathan Gardner took a fumble on special teams eight yards for the score

All American kicker Jacob Matlock added three field goals and the Lightning defense led by Donald Tharpe and Dillon Cleckler did the rest.
